Scott Thielman Interviewed for DesignNews Article: Could AI Be Your Design & Engineering Partner During Product Development?
Generative AI has seemingly found its way into almost every conversation, as it can potentially disrupt everything we know about engineering and product development.
Over the last year, our team has immersed themselves in AI to understand this new landscape better and how to embrace it—both as an asset throughout the design process and embedded in the products themselves.
While navigating and leading the conversations in-house, CTO Scott Thielman was asked to lead a course at the University of Washington-Bothell on AI in product development. DesignNews recently covered Scott’s thoughts on AI as a partner in this process, touching on the very lessons he’s leading his students through this spring.
Here is an excerpt from the article in DesignNews:
“…the tools that we bring to do the job are really just things that help us accomplish meaningful work more efficiently,” he continues. “That doesn't necessarily mean that we'll be done and out of a job more quickly—it means that there will be more work to do. We'll see rapid benefits of the impact of the products we're working on, and the pace of demand will increase. The faster and more efficiently we can deliver quality solutions, the better it is for everybody. That's where we need to be looking at these solutions even though they're not fully baked in all cases at this point.”
In the article, Scott discusses AI challenges and risks, how it can improve the design process, and AI tools to consider.
