Product Story: EMulate’s Therapeutic Device is Set to Transform Disease Treatment
Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Seattle, WA, EMulate Therapeutics is a clinical-stage therapeutic device company. EMulate Therapeutics has invented and patented a groundbreaking technology that utilizes precisely targeted, ultra-low radiofrequency energy (ulRFE®) to specifically regulate signaling and metabolic pathways on the molecular and genetic levels – without chemicals, radiation or drugs – delivered via a simple-to-use non-invasive device called EMulate Therapeutics Voyager.
What is the potential impact of your product for the healthcare space?
The system developed by EMulate Therapeutics for the treatment of brain cancer is an investigational, non-invasive, non-thermal, non-ionizing, non-sterile, portable, home-use medical device. It delivers a specific, low level (≤22kHz) magnetic field through an electromagnetic coil worn externally on the head. The field envelopes the patient’s head and delivers the therapeutic field throughout the brain. The system allows for localized delivery of a therapeutic, bypasses the blood-brain barrier, and in our clinical trials has shown no device‑related serious adverse events.
The company’s goal is to transform disease treatment on a global scale to be less toxic, less invasive, and more effective, using precise ultra-low radiofrequency energy. The proprietary technology has the potential to be applied to a wide range of conditions, as well as veterinary medicine and non-medical applications.
Showcasing the Technology’s Progress
EMulate is sharing examples of work-to-date in neuro-oncology at the Society for Neuro-oncology meeting, specifically in glioblastoma and diffuse midline glioma. Work completed with EMulate’s subsidiary ETI will also be presented. This research will be presented in poster sessions and include:

What was/were the significant challenges that drove you to seek outside services?
Multiple tests needed to be performed for the device that required specialized capabilities. Among these tests was a map of the magnetic field produced by the system relative to the brain regions. This map required the development and qualification of equipment and software to capture, analyze, and deliver the resulting field map. A particular challenge was that the existing magnetic field mapping system could not be easily adapted to the low energy of our system’s field.
Why did you choose Product Creation Studio?
Product Creation Studio had the capabilities we were looking for and impressed us with the team they had assembled. Product Creation Studio was selected and approved as a strategic supplier to provide product design and engineering services for EMulate. Product Creation Studio brings over 20 years of experience in developing medical devices with an ISO 13485:2016 certified quality system.
What services did Product Creation Studio provide to help you move you toward your goals?
Product Creation Studio has an experienced team of product development designers and engineers that provided mechanical, electrical, and software engineering services, along with design, quality assurance, and project management throughout the process.
How did Product Creation Studio go above and beyond your expectations?
As might be expected, our timelines were short, and we were exploring wholly new territory on the mapping project. In particular, they quickly developed the equipment and fixtures to enable a 3-dimensional map of the magnetic field to a resolution of 1cm, yielding roughly 19,000 individual measurements. They also wrote the software that captured and analyzed the data and created a process to integrate those data with MRI images of the human brain. Product Creation Studio’s work was essential for the success of the field map project.
