MD+DI Article: Bold Predictions for Medtech in 2021 - Scott Thielman Weighs In

MD+DI checked in with a few medical device technology experts, including Product Creation Studio’s CTO Scott Thielman, for a review of 2020 and a look ahead to 2021. Scott shares his perspective on the future of home health, advantages of the FDA’s COVID-19 Emergency Use Authorities, and more.

Scott Thielman, CTO, Product Creation Studio, pointed out in December that FDA had granted COVID-19 Emergency Use Authorizations (EUAs) for 307 diagnostics, 24 personal protective equipment devices, 27 ventilation-related devices, and 10 drug and biologic solutions (including vaccines!). “That’s almost 368 new medical solutions on the market by way of an expedited approval process. The COVID-19 EUA process has allowed companies to gather human clinical data, to establish beachhead markets for new products and new markets for existing products,” he said.
